My puppy coughs a lot and pukes. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 10 lbs

My puppy is about 7 months old. She's playful and happy, shows no signs of being sick or anything like that but every few days she pukes randomly. She coughs like she's trying to get something out her throat all the time but I haven't noticed anything there at least not where it'd be visible. I'm not sure what to do, whether I should take her to a vet or if there's something I could do myself.

Puppies (really all dogs, but it's more common in puppies) can get respiratory infections and that excessive coughing. Sometimes they cough so much that they vomit. That could be something that is going on with Princess. With any cough in a puppy, I recommend a visit to the vet to have them listen to her lungs and maybe take x-rays of her chest to make sure everything is ok.
