Why is my dog refusing wet food and barely eating his dry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | 7 months and 11 days old | 4.6 lbs

My dog is not eating properly. He is refusing to eat wet food and only eats dry food. Also, he eats for a bit and then leaves it whereas before he would eat and ask for more.

Honestly, it's ok if Archie only wants to eat dry food. It's actually better for his teeth as it can help keep some plaque off of them. It is concerning, however, that he only eats a bit and then leaves it, and that can be a sign of a medical problem such as dental issues (broken tooth or abscess), systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I would have Archie seen by a vet in the morning if he's still not eating properly for a health check.
