Why is my rabbit scratching its ears and face, but I see no mites?

Theo is 4 m/o lionhead rabbit. I've had him for over a week. He seems to be perfectly healthy, his fur has no missing patches or dandruff or anything odd looking. I've noticed he keeps scratching his cheeks and ears. But i've looked at his ears and skin and there looks like no signs of mites or fleas. Why could this be?

Mites would be the most common reason for scratching, mites cannot be seen with the naked eye at all (only under the microscope). you might want to take him to the vet in order to get a treatment for mites.
