Will neutering stop my degus from fighting and reduce their stress?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

So... I'm getting my two one year old degus castrated on Friday because they're fighting to the point where they're knocking each other over and putting holes in each other's ears. I've been advised that it will calm them down as their hormonal levels will decrease ect. I just want a second opinion that I'm doing the right thing and it won't be too stressful for them?

Yes, you are doing the right thing by getting them castrated. Intact dogs will fighting over territory and females, and castrating them will significantly decrease and may even eliminate the behavior completely. It's a routine surgery done daily, and it won't be too stressful for them :-)
