Dog on metronidazole won't eat. Can probiotics help his appetite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 55 lbs

my dog is on, metronidazole, and omeprazole. he was doing fine the first 4 days. now he won't eat. acting and pottying perfectly. we think the metro or the omeprazole is upsetting his stomach. we have his proviable forte from last week and I was wondering if i could give the last few over the next few days to help his appetite like it did before? we've been to the vet four times recently so all our savings have mostly been used up, our vet wont answer us (understandably) unless we go in again!

This is very difficult to assess fully but metronidazole is generally considered more likely to result inn stomach upsets. Probiotics are very helpful after a course of antibiotics but are less effective if given alongside. Your vet should be able to confirm the risks and benefits of stopping treatment early given possible side effects
