Blue Buffalo dry food mold & recall: Should I switch puppy food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 5 days old | 20 lbs

My pup is currently eating dry puppy Blue dog food. His tummy just got used to this food and is finally having solid stool. However I just learned that canned blue dog food has recently had a recall AND Some people are also finding mold in dry bags of blue food but there is no recall. I'm concerned because i don't know if I should switch my pups food AGAIN after just getting him used to blue. Do you think the mold that people have found could be due to shelf life and storage? Please help!

Usually the companies deliver the food in good condition, so mold would be caused by excessive moisture while storing. Check your dry food., and do not feed it if it is moldy. So as long as the feed to give is dry, not moldy and does not smell moldy, you can feed it and do not need to change food again. Even if you have a bag that has some mold, I would take it back to the shop and ask them to exchange it for a fresh bag, which you can actually open in the shop to check for mold.
