My dog has a lip ulcer and neck lump. Why isn't it getting better?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 12 years and 3 months old | 45 lbs

I live in Thailand and my dog (12) is suffering from a lip ulcer of some kind. Also in her neck the lymph node has swollen to 6cm on her right side. Thailand does have caring vets, but its frustrating to see my dog is in pain and has been given a course of Anti Biotics and prednisone, 2 tablets in morning and evening, along with an ant-acid Nothing seems to be getting better after 2 weeks.

I would be concerned that this lymph node enlargement potentially represents lymphoma. Hopefully one of the vets in your area can do a fine needle aspirate or biopsy of the node to see whether this is indeed cancer, or perhaps an infection that is not responding to the particular antibiotics being given. I would also consider a biopsy of the ulcer on the lip, as that may be a cancerous process which is causing secondary lymph node enlargement.
