My new 4-month-old puppy won't eat, walk, or bark. What's wrong?

My 4 month old puppy that I just brought home 2 days ago won't eat, bark, or even walk. Her breathing is very heavy and she hasn't has a bowl movement. The previous owners said she is up to date on her shots. What is wrong with my puppy? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 22 days old

Oh dear! Poor Blue. I'm afraid this sounds quite serious. My first concern, with the symptoms you are describing and her age, is that she may have parvo - especially if her previous owners did not provide you with any paperwork showing that she had received her full series of vaccines. This is a serious, life-threatening illness that is unfortunately quite common in puppies. Other possible causes of her symptoms could include an intestinal obstruction, a serious infection of some kind, or ingestion of something toxic. Regardless of the underlying cause, these symptoms are serious enough to warrant a trip to the emergency vet tonight. He/she can do some diagnostic testing to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment right away.
