My dog is walking slowly and stopping. Is it the Evening Primrose Oil?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered

My dog has walking very slowly and stops every now and again. This has only been over the past week. I have been putting Evening Primrose Oil in his dinner for a week, would this have any adverse effects with his walking please?

I don't think the EPO are to blame for what you're seeing in Jack. Although occasionally using oils such as this, or fish oil, can cause a bit of GI upset at the beginning, most dogs tolerate them very well. You don't mention how old Jack is, but I'm concerned that there is another problem going on - perhaps pain, a heart issue, or a lung issue - that is causing him to slow down like this. If the behavior persists, he needs to be seen by his vet for some diagnostic testing and a thorough physical exam, in order to figure out what is wrong.
