Should I buy an 8-week Frenchie puppy with weak legs and a pot belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | 2 months and 1 day old

Hello. I was looking to buy a frenchie puppy yesterday. He's 8 weeks old lively little Frenchie. However, I noticed that his hind legs seem to be weak. He can stand, walk and run just like normal puppies do, except he fell many times because his hind legs 'split'. It seems to me that his hind legs are not stable. Additionally, his belly is bigger than my previous frenchie and it's noticeable that his belly looks pot-liked. Is his symptom serious? Should I buy this dog? (FYI: He's been dewormed)

He may have Splay puppy syndrome, sometimes called Swimming Puppy Syndrome. If you really want to buy this puppy, I would have it examined by a veterinarian before buying it making sure it it is healthy. If the breeder does not want you to have it examined by a vet of YOUR choice, then I would say: hands off. If the puppy has health issues, I would not buy it either. There are many healthy puppies out there to buy.
