Tips for keeping your puppy safe from energetic young children?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 4 lbs

Doctor Melanie- You've managed to calm down my anxiety and thought me important stuff for caring for your puppy. As much as I know that she hasn't been in contact with males and it's just small and she likes it when I massage that area. Soon she's going to be checked for crystals in her urine and I might ask about it. Do you have any advice on how to deal with wild little children? I need to protect her from them hurting her.

I'm so glad I'm able to help you, and yes before sure to ask about that area when Bella does see the vet for potential crystals in her urine. You are correct that she does need protecting from wild little children hurting her. I would have a talk with the children, and show them how to approach her calmly and how to touch her appropriately. Do not let children run up to Bella and pet her uninvited; rather, they should ask for permission to pet her first. If you notice she's becoming upset or distressed (ears back, tense body), then immediately remove her from the children.
