Unfortunately, there are no OTC medications you can give your dog for her cough. The cough will be related to her heart disease, and is likely caused by a build up of fluid in her lungs. There are medications you can get from your vet that can help with that help with called diuretics. An example of a diuretic would be furosimide. I would speak to your vet today about possibly putting her on a diuretic to help with her cough.

If your vet prescribed Vetmedin then your vet diagnosed him with heart failure, often Vetmedin alone is not enough and additional medications need to be added to the mix (frusamide and enalapril for example).

There are several different medications that can be used to treat blood pressure or heart disease as they do not always go together. A range of medications can include an ace inhibitor (enalapril, benazepril), a diuretic (furosemide), and Vetmedin if having heart failure.
