If a parvovirus titer test shows that my puppy had good immunity to parvovirus, can the puppy still get infected?

Titers tests measure the body's level of immune system proteins, what is called antibodies. It does not mean your puppy still cannot get the disease, and they should not be used in place of vaccines. That's because there is no way to predict antibody levels three or six months down the line. These levels can change due to any number of factors including stress, disease, and medication, so these levels may not be consistent over time. Titer tests should not take the place of the recommended vaccine protocol, and I would have your puppy vaccinated for parvo as well as other deadly diseases like rabies and distemper. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear that Cleo is not feeling well. There is a parvo antibody titer blood test that will tell you if she has antibodies to the disease. Unfortunately, results can be hard to interpret in puppies and it will take a few days to get the result back. If Cleo has parvo, she'll be quite sick by then. Any puppy who has not had at least two vaccines 3-4 weeks apart, with the last vaccine occurring at or after 16 weeks of age is considered at risk for parvo. Eg, Cleo is at risk for parvo even if she has had vaccines in the past. Keep her inside (no pet stores, dog parks, or human parks) and away from other puppies under 4 months of age. And keep a close eye on her for the next few days. If she starts vomiting, she definitely needs to see the vet right away to be tested for the virus. Best of luck to you and Cleo!

Parvo is a serious disease that will make a pup very dull and weak and passing bloody diarohhea. Look for a healthy happy puppy and ask if the mother had her parvo vaccine. Your own dog should be fine considering it is vaccinated but I would recommend getting the new puppy vaccinated asap.

Your dog can be vaccinated now. There is very little risk that Shiva will contract parvo from the vaccination, especially not if she had natural parvovirus infection already and recovered. Please have her vaccinated ASAP.
