My cat is depressed from eye drops for herpes. Should I continue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs

My cat is getting very depressed over the eye drops I have been giving hm for the last 10 days. I don't have the heart to keep doing it to him. He has a herpesvirus related eye film. It is better that it was, but I'm supposed to continue the eye drops.

I would continue with Puck's eye drops even though he doesn't like getting them. His eye health is vitally important. Cutting off the treatment now could have damaging effects to his eyes, which should be avoided. I'm not sure how much longer you have to give Puck his eye drops, but I would continue to give them to him as prescribed by your vet. Should it be a long course of treatment, give your vet a call in the morning to discuss your concerns.
