This can't be pleasant for you or for Ted! Urination during sleep can have several causes, including a urinary tract infection, seizures, weakness to the urethral sphincter (hormone related or not), or even "bed wetting" that Ted could grow out of. Regardless, the first step should include taking Ted to his vet for an exam, prostate exam (unlikely to be an issue since he has been neutered) and urinalysis to check for infection. If there is not a readily apparent diagnosis, your vet will discuss monitoring for seizure activity or a trial with medications to improve the urethral sphincter's function. I hope this helps!

If this is a behavior that has just started in Ted that he has not done previously, it could be due to a medical problem such as a UTI or bladder stones. I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for this problem, and to have a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis done. These tests will help identify if there is a medical problem causing him to pee in his sleep, and the vet can prescribe medication to help treat it. If a medical cause is ruled out, then I recommend taking away Ted's water before bed, taking him out to pee right before sleeping, and possibly getting up at least once in the night to let him out so that he doesn't pee in his sleep. You can have him sleep in a crate at night which will help him learn to control his bladder. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marvin. He will need to see his veterinarian to have a urine sample tested. He could have an infection, bladder stones or even diabetes. If he is an older dog, he could be experiencing incontinence from a weakened bladder sphincter as a result of age. In the meantime, try placing something waterproof where he likes to sleep. A waterproof mattress cover or even a tarp can help with clean ups. I hope this information helps!
