My new dog is snorting and coughing, now my other pets are sick.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 53 lbs

I adopted a dog earlier in the month and a few days later she started snorting. Antibiotics from the vet didn't work and now my other dog, and (most recently) the cat are showing the symptoms. I numbered out foxtail or cleaning products cause my other pets would have had symptoms before the new dog and my cat in only indoors so it cant be foxtail affecting her too. Today the new dog started coughing some with a little bit of mucus(clear not colored) coming up as well. They all have all vaccines.

Based on the history, I am suspicious of an infectious cause and that Micah has given it to the other animals. Its extremely unusual for cats to get infections from dogs but its not impossible. There are many different organisms (bacteria and viruses) that cause respiratory infections and its possible that the antibiotic was ineffective for this particular infection or that it is a virus that needs to run its course. I would recommend another trip to the vet to have her checked out again to be on the safe side. Make sure Micah is drinking plenty of water and she is getting rest as this is good for her immune system. A fatty acid supplement will also help decrease inflammation in her nose and this may help relieve some symptoms as well.
