My puppy's eye is red and puffy again. Should I use a cone or Isathal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 7 days old | 7 lbs

Our puppy had redness around and in his eye, took him to our vet, gave us isathal, after a few days his eye seemed to be fine, now it is red and puffy again but inside of his eye seems to be fine,he scratches it quite a bit which I think maybe the reason it is irritated, should we continue with isathal or put on a cone to prevent scratching? He is a 6 month old morkie

There are two things you need to do: 1) put on a cone to prevent Jasper from doing more damage to the eye 2) take Jasper back to the vet for a recheck. Bring the Isathal with you so the vet can determine whether you have enough for the treatment. Do not put the Isathal on until your vet has rechecked the eye. Eye drops/ointments need to be given for at least 7 days and then the vet should resee the dog in order to make sure the treatment was successful.
