Hello I have a blue nose pitbull he has developed red welps all over. We have tried switching hos food to a non grain food. If it is a food allergy about how long should it take to see improvement?

Food allergies are actually not very common in dogs, and the most common food allergy is protein not grain. I would be more inclined to think that Maximus may be suffering from environmental allergies or may have been bitten by an insect leading to the whelps. If he was suffering from a food allergy, I would expect to see an improvement in his symptoms within a few weeks, but I wouldn't wait and see. I would have Maximus seen by a vet tomorrow for these red whelps. The vet can diagnose the cause of them, and can prescribe a treatment for them.
