Great question! Your dog needs a combination vaccine containing DHPPi (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza), as well as a rabies vaccine. If leptospirosis is a problem in your area, then I would recommend having your dog get a lepto vaccine. A kennel cough vaccine would be recommended as well if your dog will be placed in kennels at any time over the next year.

    Great question! Rabies and the DHPPi (distemper hepatitis parvovirus parainfluenza) combination shot. I recommend the leptospirosis vaccine if that’s a problem in your area, and the kennel cough vaccine if you plan on boarding Simba sometime in the next year. I hope this helps!

    Great question! I highly recommend DHPPi, which is a combination vaccine that protects against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza. I would speak to the vet at Petco to see if Leptospirosis is a problem in your area, and if it is, I'd recommend that vaccines. Finally, I'd recommend kennel cough since Kevin goes to a groomer and if you ever plan to board him over the next year. I hope this helps, great job getting him vaccinated!

Hi my question is this... I have a German Sheppard girl, she's now 2 years old and I've never got her shots.... now I'm wondering which shots would she need to be safe and approximately how much it costs? Thanks in advance.
She is a pretty girl!!! The most important vaccination (and one required by law) is the Rabies vaccine. This is essential. The second most important vaccine is the Distemper vaccine, which is often a combo vaccine sometimes called a DHPP (protects against distemper, canine hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza). These vaccines are considered the "core vaccines" for dogs. Every dog should have them. The rest will depend on her lifestyle. I also recommend the Leptosporosis vaccine for dogs if they spend time outdoors in areas with creeks/puddles/ponds because this disease is a bacteria transmitted to dogs by contaminated water (rodents who have the disease urinate and it contaminates the water and the dogs can acquire it this way). The Lepto vaccine requries a series of 2 booster 3 to 4 weeks apart if she has never had it before. How many injections are needed to normal dog in a year.. for his/her safety
This will depend on the type of vaccines used. Usually your dog will need a once yearly rabies vaccination, and a once yearly DAPP2 vaccination. Depending on where you live and whether he has access to water puddles, ponds, etc, he will also need a once yearly Leptospirosis Vaccination. Consult with your pet doctor, he will recommend what is needed in your area.

Hi. My 2yr old dog is due for vaccinations. I plan to go to Petco. Besides the rabies and the monthly heart medications. What other vaccines should be recommended? He goes to a groomer, takes walks and socializes a with a few selective dogs.

If I am unsure what shots my dogs have had what shots should I give them.
If you don't know what vaccines have been given the safest thing to do is to start the vaccine series again. Core vaccines recommended for all dogs are the DHPP combination vaccine and the rabies vaccine. The DHPP vaccine covers distemper, parvovirus, the hepatitis virus and parainfluenza. This vaccine may or may not require a booster 3-4 weeks after the initial vaccine depending on the manufacturer. Rabies does not require a booster. Other vaccines that Shappire may need based on lifestyle and location include a Bordetella or kennel cough vaccine, Leptospirosis vaccine, Influenza vaccine, or Lyme vaccine. You should talk to your veterinarian about to see if any of these would be recommended for your dogs. Most require a booster 3-4 weeks after the initial vaccine, although if an intranasal or oral Bordetella vaccine is given it may not require a booster.

Most dogs are vaccinated against Rabies, kennel cough, and distemper/adenovirus/parvovirus as a combination vaccine. Rabies vaccine is a must, and a distemper/ parvovirus combination is important too. Other vaccines such as Lyme, influenza. and bordetella depend on where you are in the country and what your dogs life style is. I want to know about vaccine injection given to my dog 1.ARV(prop*)1ml 2.ARV(booster)1ml *can't read it. Is there any other injection needed.
It sounds like Beast may have been give a Rabies vaccine, which is very important for him to have. He should also have a DHPPi combination shot (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, parainfluenza) if he hasn't had that already. I'm not sure if leptospirosis is a problem in India, but if it is, I would speak to your vet about giving Beast a leptospirosis vaccine. If you plan on putting him in a kennel anytime soon, a kennel cough vaccine would also be recommended.

I have a dog who’s been in the family for 4 years but has never been vaccinated, what vaccines does he need?
Core vaccines include distemper/parvovirus combination (DHPP) and a rabies vaccine. The distemper combo should be boosted in 4 weeks. The rabies vaccine should be boosted in 1 year, then every 3 years. Lifestyle vaccines, based on risk of exposure, include Bordatella, Lyme disease, Canine flu and Leptospirosis. These are administered as 2 injections given 3-4 weeks apart, then yearly. Bambi should also be tested cor heartworm disease then placed on a monthly preventative. A flea and tick preventative should also be used monthly. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites.
