Dog vomited a nut shell, still licking lips. Is something else wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 16 lbs

My Jack Russel was coughing and vomiting mucous. Vet found that there is an infection somewhere after examination. He gave her an injection and off we went. My Dog then seemed much better, didn't vomit again. I just noticed she licked her lips a lot. After a few days she vomited up a hard acadamia nut shell. So I'm thinking that is what caused the vomiting before. I'm just worried cause she is still constantly licking her lips, but otherwise normal. Could something else be wrong?

It certainly is possible that the macadamia nut shell could have caused Coco's vomiting. Licking the lips is a sign of nausea in dogs, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Hopefully, this helps her feel better :-)
