My 10-month-old Yorkie is unexpectedly pregnant. What are my options?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 14 days old

Hello, my yorkie has unexpectedly come into heat at 10months old, and we have come home to find her and the male stuck together. We suspect she may be pregnant. What are our options? We have intent to let her litter once but was not planning on so soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You can take her to your vet for a course of three hormone injections, which will stop the pregnancy. There is also a hormone implant which can stop a pregnancy. Consult with your vet about what is best for your situation and for your dog. It may be best to let her have the puppies, as the side effects of the hormone injections could be serious, mainly that she could get a uterine infection, which would be treated best by spaying her.
