Why is my senior dog coughing, congested, lethargic, and stumbling?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 24 lbs

my senior dog was fine two days ago. now she is coughing and sounds like she is congested. she spits up stuff sometimes but not all the time. she is lethargic but wasnt like that a couple of days ago. she stumbles when she tries to walk

These signs could be compatible with a respiratory tract inflammation/infection or potentially could be related to heart disease. Considering the lethargy, a systemic sign, I would recommend a check up as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause and establish appropriate treatment. Antibiotics may be needed.     I'm sorry to hear that your dog hasn't been feeling well. Coughing and lethargy could be a sign of underlying diseases like heart disease, heartworm disease, chronic bronchitis, cancer, among others. I'm glad to hear that he only had one episode of coughing, but the ongoing lethargy is a bit more concerning. I do recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and possibly for chest x-rays to get to the bottom of this issue. Better safe than sorry. I hope that all goes well!
