What to do when your dog hides under the bed and won't come out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

My dogs under my bed right now and won't come out. Any ideas why she's doing this? We don't have any company over.

Could be a number of reasons why Chloe doesn't want to come out from underneath the bed. Something could have spooked her, she may not be feeling well or perhaps ambient temperatures have made it more comfortable for her underneath the bed. I would try coaxing her out with her favorite treat or toy and examining her for any injuries. If her tail is tucked and she is panting and seems nervous, then it's safe to assume that something has spooked her. Try calming her down in a soft voice and giving her her favorite treat. It may take a couple of days for her to recover from whatever the incident was. However if she seems ill and is not eating or drinking, vomiting or having diarrhea then it's best to have her examined by a veterinarian to determine the underlying disease or condition. I hope you get to the bottom of things soon and that Chloe returns to her normal self.

This could just be normal for her. Dogs like confined small areas as they feel safer. As long as she is eating and drinking normally and acting normal otherwise, I would not be too concerned. I hope this helps !
