My dog suddenly poops on furniture. Is she sick or misbehaving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 20 days old

My dog is behaving incredibly bad. My dog is actually pooping on top of my furniture in which she has never done that before and it's really starting to get my mum annoyed. My mum brought her pup from DR and he knows how to use the weewee pad. My dog used the weewee pad but all of a sudden she's being reckless and my mum is already getting upset and I don't want it to lead to me having to give away my dog.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem! I see that Nala is very young, only about 9-10 months old. She's still a baby, so it's expected that she will still have housetraining accidents from time to time. If she hasn't been examined by a vet recently, this is the first thing I would recommend as she may have an underlying medical issue of some kind that is causing her to "go" in unusual places. If your vet feels that she is healthy, then I would recommend blocking her access to the furniture for the next couple of weeks. This may mean confining her to an x-pen (short for exercise pen - these can be purchased at many pet stores or ordered online) or to a single room such as a kitchen or bathroom with her pee pads whenever you are not closely supervising her. This should help to encourage her to use the pee pads when she needs to poop, since she will not have any other options. Once she has been using the pads with no accidents for at least two weeks, you can gradually start to give her more freedom in the house again.
