How long should I keep my bird away from paint fumes after painting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

I asked a question about Painting rooms about 18 feet away from a Canary. Two Vets answered. One said put the Canary back in the room, when the Paint is dry, the same day. The other Vet said, Keep the Canary away from the paint for one week! Which answer is correct?

That will depend on the type of paint you are using. If the paint is odorless latex paint (you specified odorless paint), then you can wait until it is dry and move your bird back in once the paint is completely dry (which can take a few days). If you are using solvent-based paint then you will have to wait until the solvent has disappeared completely , so your bird will not inhale it , and this can take a week or longer. Best check with the paint manufacturer of your specific paint.
