Is 100% dry dog food okay? Why is canned dog food more expensive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

Thank you David for answering my questions! I've been using Fromm food for my dog as well as canned as a topper. Would you just feed 100% dry? Also, why is canned so much more expensive if it's not better quality? I'm slightly confused. Thanks!

Waiting for David to answer your question I hope you don't mind if I answer as well! 100% Dry food would be perfect and there are no important contraindications about it. So if Chloe likes it, go for it. It will help to keep the teeth cleaner as well removing small amount of tartar that can accumulate on the teeth. Canned is more expensive mainly because it is heavier to transport (as the content of water is over 75%) and you need more of it to get your dog enough calories. regarding what to feed, it's really up to you, i usually recommend dry food only but it's absolutely fine to give some canned food as well, just as long as you feed a high quality food to Chloe.
