My cat brings injured mice home. How to humanely deal with them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat keeps bringing in live mice, but instead of killing them she just keeps injuring them, I understand this is a cat's natural instinct to hunt but I am a lover off all living things and can't bear to watch these poor mice suffer she injures them just enough to slowly bleed out and I'm not sure whether to let them die outside or to keep them in my house so they can die in some warmth, I wouldn't mind so much if they were already dead but it is causing me some sad sleepless nights please help

I can understand how this is upsetting to you! You sound like you have a very kind heart, and I would allow them to pass in your home where they are warm. Using gloves, I would put them in a shoe box that is lined with paper towels to give them a soft and warm place to pass. I hope this helps!
