How do i treat the fungal problem on my shi tzu genital area? It has been treated with itraconazol but everytime we cease the treatment it comes back. I suspect of malassezia but why it doesnt cure?

Repeated/recurrent yeast infections are generally an indication of an underlying problem such as skin folds are becoming damp, altered skin balance or chronic irritation such as from food allergies or incontinence. A full physical exam by your vet to identify any complicating factors and also a swab for culture to identify the type of infections present would be very useful. I also recommend a food trial for 6-8weeks on a hydrolyzed diet such as royal canin hypoallergenic or hills z/d to rule out food sensitivity
