My spayed puppy is weak and wobbly after a walk. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 3 months and 13 days old | 6 lbs

3 month old puppy has become weak and wobbly within the last three hours. She was spayed two days ago. Today she went on a long walk (approx little over a mile). Could the walk have debilitated, exhausted, and dehydrated the puppy? She fell asleep right after the walk. She ate half a cup of food after waking up. Barely drank. What should I do?

I would take Nyla into a vet immediately. Dogs should be on strict exercise restriction after getting spayed, and she should not have gone a long walk so soon after this surgery. Exercise increases the risk of post-operative complications, and should be strictly avoided. I would be very concerned that this walk may have created a post-operative complication, and she does need to see a vet now. Please take her into the vet who spayed her, or if that vet is closed, have her seen at an ER vet clinic or find a vet on call to see her now.
