My cat's itching is back. How often can he safely get cortisone shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 16 years and 3 months old

How often can a grown cat safely get a shot of cortizone? It was given for constant itching and worked but now the itching is back! Lasted about 2-3 months.

Long acting cortisone shots wear off after 2-3 months, which is why you are seeing a return of Funnyface's itching. Steroids can be used long term, but blood and urine tests are required every six months with quarterly exams. I would speak to your vet about possible long term use of cortisone in Funnyface.
