How to tell ringworm from an abscess on my pet, or can they co-exist?

How can I tell the difference between ringworm and an abcess....or could the two occur simultaneously? Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 35 lbs

The two could potentially occur simultaneously in rare occasions, but generally speaking the abscess should consist in a pus filled cavity, whereas ringworm lesion is usually plain, alopecic (bald) and with possible erythematous area there.
