My dog and I are both itching. Could it be contagious or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs

My dog has been itching on her under side, between her legs & arm pits for 3 days now. Now I am itching all over my body ..what can this be from??? It's happened to me last year too for a couple of months. Is this seasonal allergies or mites, scabies, etc???!! Thanks.

There are itchy skin conditions which can be transferred from pets to people - scabies, ringworm and occasionally flea bites can all cause itching in people. I recommend you get Goldie fully checked by your vet and skin scrapings/hair tests performed to rule these out - depending on the findings you may also need to see your own doctor or pharmacist for treatment also. Generally speaking however, recurrent seasonal itching is much more likely to be related to allergies and requires symptomatic treatment for Goldie - these are not contagious to people
