Oh no, poor Little Girl! She could be coughing from a respiratory infection, but unfortunately there aren't any medications you can give her OTC. I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow. The vet can diagnose if she is suffering from a respiratory infection and can prescribe medication to treat it. Tonight, if she's congested, you can try using a humidifier or bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.

Cough is a sign that could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract infection (very commonly to kennel cough) or potentially with inflammation of other source. If the cough persists or if you notice more signs like inappetence, lethargy or discharge from nose, a check up would be needed as antibiotics may be required. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

You can try putting Missy in a room with a humidifier, or you can try brining her into the bathroom with you when you shower. The steam from both may temporarily help with her congestion. Unfortunately, there isn't much else you can do, and without knowing exactly what is causing her symptoms, I can't suggest things for you to do at home. That's because her symptoms can be caused by a respiratory infection, which the steam therapy may help temporarily, but they can also be caused by cardiac disease or heartworms, which definitely require veterinary attention to treat. She does have to see a vet as soon as possible for this, and she will likely need a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing her symptoms. I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet for Missy. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com http://bestfriends.org/resources/financial-aid-pets http://lessonsfromaparalyzeddog.com/when-pet-owners-cant-afford-veterinary-bills/ God's Creatures Ministry helps pay for veterinarian bills for those who need help. The Onyx & Breezy Foundation has many programs including helping people with medical bills. They are a good resource for information. Brown Dog Foundation provides funding to families with a sick pet that would likely respond to treatment, but due to circumstances, there is not enough money immediately available to pay. I hope one of these resources helps you afford a vet for her!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Daisy. She may have an upper respiratory tract infection given your description of her behavior. You can try placing her in the bathroom. Turn the shower to hot and allow the steam to build with the door closed. Having her breathe the hot steam can lessen congestion and help her to breathe easier. If her symptoms persist though she will need to see her veterinarian. She may need an antibiotic. I hope this information helps!
