My budgie has scabies. Is the vet's treatment all I need to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

Hello! Thank you for all your help! I went to vet with my budgie and he said my budgie has a beginning of scabia. He gave me a solution with invermectina to put once a week behind the neck and told me to put parrafin oil on their feet. The virus didn't evolve. It is in the beginning phase. What else can I do? I am very worried. I always took good care of their cage and nutrition. I just left them one month to a friend and this happened... any other advice? Thank you for your kindness.

Your veterinarian diagnosed your bird being infected with knemidocoptes mites, a type of scabies, that affects the legs and beak and eyes. This is a parasite. Ivermectin and the parraffin oil will kill the mites, nut it will take some time for the skin to heal and get replaced with healthy skin. The treatment your veterinarian recommended is the proper treatment and you do not have to do anything else. You may want to tell your friend to check his birds for the same signs.
