My dog's treats got hard in a jar. Are they still safe to feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

Does storing treats in a sealed glass jar cause them to get harder? Because I just opened up a new bag of Fromm treats and they easily broke in half where as previously when I was storing them in a glass jar I was not able to break them in half. Ive been storing the new bag in the original packaging and so far it hasn't gotten so hard that I couldn't break them in half. So is it ok to feed these? Is a good rule of thumb to only feed treats if I am able to break them in half? Thanks!

The glass jar may not seal as well as the original packaging in this case. I doubt that it would cause Chloe any harm to feed her these treats, as they are likely just stale. However, I agree that a general rule of thumb is that treats are best fed when they are fresh and able to be broken.
