Why is my senior dog still having diarrhea and shivering on meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 21 lbs

My senior Boston Terrier had diarrhea tonight at 5 pm, he ate his food tonight but I could feel him shivering in bed at 1:50 am, took him out and he still has diarrhea, he's drinking water now. He appetite was off last week which is not like him so I took him to his Vet last Friday. She did blood and urine testing, results all normal. She put him on Metronidazole 250 mg every 12 hours and Cerenia 24 mg every 24 hours. He did not have diarrhea until today.

Continue the treatment and feed him boiled chicken and rice for a few days, this should resolve the problem. if it doesn't you will need to take him back to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.
