How to treat my dog's dry, bleeding skin after a short haircut?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Old English Sheepdog | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 3 months old | 40 lbs

Hi there! I have a 8 year old female Old English Sheepdog who got a haircut by dad at the end of winter. It seems as if he may have cut her hair too short. There are patches where she no longer has hair and her skin has started to dry with some bleeding. Any advice as to how I should treat my baby?

Oh no, poor Princess Pebbles! It sounds like she has quite dry skin, and you can try giving her an oatmeal bath as that can help with dry skin. I would give her some fish oil supplements at well to help with her skin. She can get 1000mg of fish oil contained 300mg EPA/DHA combined for every 30 pounds of bodyweight.
