What if my dog missed a deworming dose? How to adjust the schedule?

hi, i have 7 year old Labrador. About 15 days ago ,i gave one dose of deworming tablets, unfortunately i forgot to give second dose on the other day.Now, after three days i have to give the third dose, I am very much worried how to give the third and fourth dose after three days because i missed the second dose. Please help me regarding the same as soon as possible. thank you.

I recommend deworming at 10 day intervals. It, of course, depends on the medications, but if you mixed a second dose I would recommend adjusting the remaining doses at the correct interval originally prescribed.

    Don't worry about it. Just give a dose now, then another in two weeks. This should be sufficient. about two weeks after giving the last dose, I suggest you take a bit of fresh stool to your veterinarian for a fecal exam to see whether there are still worm eggs present.

    There is no need to deworm Piglet now if she had the tablet 5 days ago. You should wait another 10 days before you deworm her again. The reason for that is that this medication kills all adult forms of the worms but it does not kill the eggs. It takes about 14 days for the eggs to became adult worms, so the second dose will get rid of the newly hatched parasites.

I would probably recommend waiting 3-7 days and give her a full dose instead, don't try mixing it with water as it becomes very bad to the taste this way, either mix it with food without breaking it or give it manually until swallowed.

Hi, it is fine to give the two tablets together as a single dose. The dose is accurate for a 20 kg dog, how often your repeat it will depend on how frequently he comes in contact with parasites. If there are lots of worms in the environment, he could be wormed every 3 months but I would double check with your vet. Hope this helps !

My dog completed her vaccine and deworm but she still need to go back every 3 months for deworm. The thing is, I've missed to bring her to vet and she's 3 weeks delay from the scheduled deworm. My dog is indoor and 2 years old. I saw a chart stating
Regular deworming has been advised for a long time, but the current practice is to test and treat only if necessary. Personally, I think deworming every three months is overkill and a big reason why we have resistance now. If you live in an area that's high risk for worms and your dog is more likely to get exposed to worms, then testing every six months should be fine. If it's a lower risk, then testing once a year would be more practical. Your vet should be able to help get you on a more strategic deworming plan. For now, I would not worry about missing this one deworming. She should be fine and can wait at- least another month to check if the deworming is needed. I hope that helps.

i gave my beagle the 8 in 1 dewormer but it was for a 20 lb dog he weighs 37 lbs.
I am sorry I misread your question during my initial answer. If your pet received less than the dosage needed, then you would simply need to redose him another equal dose for a 20 lb dog and he will then get his accurate amount of dewormer. Typically dewormers are dosed in mg's, so if you look at the mg dosage for the weight range he should have had, it should be close to double the mg dosage for a 20 lb dog. I hope this helps! Hello! It is okay to start deworming at 8 weeks old, for sure. I'm not sure which product you are using, but you could go ahead and give her the 8 week dose, then check with your vet (let them know which product you are using), and continue deworming as recommended by your vet. You could always submit a stool sample to your vet as well, as there can be parasites present that the routine wormers don't kill off. Best of luck with your new puppy!

If a dog has a bad case of worms & was given a wormer today, when can a 2nd dose be given to catch any that are hatching in the dogs system?
The best time to give a second dose is approximately 20 days after the first dose. This should hit the worms that hatch from eggs remaining but before they can lay new eggs. If Brownie had such a severe case of worm infection, you may want to collect a fresh fecal sample about 3-4 days after the second dose of wormer and take that to your vet for a fecal exam. This sample should be clear.

This would depend on the medication as well as the type of intestinal parasites that were observed. Discuss an appropriate dose of dewormer with your veterinarian if it will treat the same ones seen in the clinic.

Hi, I would not repeat the dewormer dose as you do not want to overdose her on the dewormer. She should be dewormed again in 3 weeks to make sure you got the life cycle of all the parasites she may have. If she is not having diarrhea or weight loss she may not even have worms. There is not a need to deworm her before the vaccines, they will still work properly regardless of the worming. I would go to your vet for vaccines and bring a stool sample with you to see if they could check it for worms. Depending on what eggs they see, they might recommend a different dewormed like pyrantel or panacur (fenbendazole). Either way, i would not redose her because she is so small and it is easy to overdose them and make them sick. If your vet suggests something different, you can follow his or her instructions.
