Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 90 lbs

I need advice on fixing my 4 year old dog. He and His brother are becoming aggressive towards each other. If I get them fixed will it help with the aggressiveness.

Yes, having them fixed can help reduce aggression as dogs fight over territory and females. I would definitely have them both fixed, and I would also recommend professional behavioral training for them both when they are fixed. This can help with the aggressive behaviors, and I recommend using a professional because training aggressive dogs can be dangerous. I never suggest owners do it on their own for safety reasons. First step is to get them fixed, and I would have that done asap.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, it is probable that getting them fixed will help. I would say that you may not get the full effect until both are fixed. I would also note that some residual behavioral aggression may remain. This can usually be improved by some anti-anxiety medication and training. Best wishes to you and the pups!
