My dog ate grapes, now she's tired and vomiting. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 8 days old | 20 lbs

Rosie today has been acting very tires which is not her usual personality. Rosie ate a couple grapes a few days ago and now she is acting strange and she threw up solid food. Her feces has been normal. She also has been around chicken feces when we were cleaning there bedding. We don't know what's wrong with her. Her usual personality in very feisty and crazy.

Oh no, poor Rosie! Grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure, leading to signs of lethargy, vomiting and inappetence. Rosie needs to go to an ER vet immediately, as this could be a life-threatening emergency. The vet will be able to examine her, determine her kidney values on lab testing (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis), and start her on IV fluid therapy with other supportive medications. Good luck!

It could be the grapes that she ate causing her symptoms. Grapes are toxic to dogs, leading to kidney failure, and it can take a couple of days for symptoms to appear. It also possible the chicken feces has made her sick if she ate any. I would take her into a vet immediately since she recently ate something toxic to dogs (the grapes) to be safe. She should have a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis to check on her kidney function. I would take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet can be found on the clinic's answering machine or website. Please take her into a vet now.
