Dog ate plants in new yard, now has tremors. How to find toxic ones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Vizsla | Male | neutered | 6 years and 1 month old | 175 lbs

We recently moved so our dog can have a yard. He eats everything that drops out of the trees, and began having tremors. How do I identify which plants are hurting him? I don't know yet what we have growing here.

I suggest you go to your local agricultural extension office and ask them to visit your place to determine what kind of plants grow there and whether they are toxic. If the extension office won;t come, then maybe a gardener or similar person can help, You can also take good photos of the plants (bark, leaves, flowers, fruit) and try to match them via one of the browsers on your computer. (Type: "Reverse image search" into your browser and that should bring up how and where).

Check out the ASPCA's website of poisonous plants which has lots of pictures and can help you identify if there are any poisonous plants in your yard :-) https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants
