Is my neutered cat's appetite, mating calls, and affection normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old

I neutered him two weeks ago, he's active and likes to play and run, doesn't seem sick at all. however noticed three things : - his apetite changed. Almost stopped eating wet food and takes few bites from dry food between now and then but I doubt it's enough. - he still calls out for mating though it's been two weeks since the operation. - he's more affectionate. Likes to be petted and asks for it frequently. Doesn't leave before he gets it :) Is it normal ?

Your cat might have something going on with his mouth or teeth, or may have a urinary tract disease or some other metabolic issue. If he is losing weight, you should have blood work and a urine test done to make sure he doesn't have an infection or other issue causing him to stop eating as well as he was. Otherwise, the increase in wanting attention is not necessarily a bad thing or a sign of illness.
