My dog's neuter wound opened. Does he need to see the vet again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 2 months old | 90 lbs

My male dog got neutered last Monday and his wound was glued shut. It has opened some and I'm wondering if I should take him back to the the vet. I have a picture if you'd like.

Unfortunately, there is no way to share photos on the forum, but you can request a consult with an expert online to share as many photos are you'd like and receive more in-depth help. After almost a week of healing, the wound shouldn't be opening back up, so I would have Kane seen by a vet to check this out. It may need to be closed again with more surgical glue or staples.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am afraid that he needs to go back in to possibly consider sutures though it is hard to see in these pictures. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian that can look at the incision in person and decide what would be best. Best of luck!
