Puppy's gums cut by dog bite. Does she need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed

Hi. I just got a new puppy and my other dog got aggressive and bit her. The inside of her mouth looks cut open on her gums. I am not sure if this is something that will heal and anything I can do to help the process or if I should take her to an emergency vet for more care. I am not sure what they would be able to for her there. Any advice would help. Thank you

Oh no, poor Jade! I would have her seen by the ER vet for this. I'm not sure how deep or long the cut is, and it may need sutures to close it up. If it is deep and long, food can get caught in it, leading to infection. She may also be painful from it, and might need pain medications. Please do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Take her into the ER vet right away. Good luck, I hope this helps!
