If the pad is just pink, does not have a discharge, or is cracked or bleeding, then it is just a pad without black pigment. Nothing to worry about. If the pad looks injured or has a discharge or hurts, then it needs to be examined by a vet.

Depigmentation can be normal, but if the skin is also thick or crusty or there are other skin lesions it might also be a sign of an autoimmune skin disease. If Iker has scabs or crusts on his paw pads that aren't obvious in the picture, if he seems itchy or if he has other skin problems I'd recommend having your vet take a look.

Hello. I attached a photo of Gracie's front right paw showing the discoloration that's is on the 2 middle toes. The same thing occurs in the middle of her left paw as well. Is this a sign of concern or? Thank you

Coloration of the paw pads can change as a dog ages, and may turn pinkish or brown, especially if old skin has sloughed off or there was an injury that healed. Signs of a problem to look out for include licking or chewing of the feet, redness or inflammation, pain, visible swelling or injury, strange smells, or if the discolored area is painful to the touch or non-weight bearing. These are all signs of something else ongoing such as an infection, allergy, or injury, which should be treated by your vet.

Recently I noticed one of my mini aussie’s front paw looks quite pink and I don’t know if I should be concerned or not. I’ve attached a picture that shows one of his other paws just for comparison. Should I be worried?

It almost looks like Leo may have had an injury to one of his paw pads that has healed causing lighter than normal pad - particularly on the toes where there is a central pink area. This could also be his normal pigment even though his other pads don’t look quite the same. There are some skin diseases that could cause depigmentation of the paw pads but they usually also cause ulcers, crusts or peeling of the pads. A picture is not the same as an in person exam, so if you’re not sure or you’re still concerned it wouldn’t hurt to see your vet.

My puppy has a small amount of peeling on a couple of his paws. Not sure why. He is not showing any discomfort. No discoloration.

The picture is a little fuzzy so its hard to tell for sure, but I suspect this is normal. Older cells and the outer layer of pad will exfoliate off with time as new pad tissue is created. No need to worry as long as he's comfortable, isn't licking at these areas excessively, isn't limping, and there's no cracks with any bleeding or oozing. thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! The tan on the pink part of his paws in normal callus formation over time. In dogs with black paws it is less obvious. The brown discoloration in the nails usually indicates a yeast infection of the nails. If he isn't licking the feet or having any problems you may not have to do anything for the yeast. It appears as though the pads are just soft and the first couple layers are rubbing off. Nothing to worry about too much. I suggest you use a product to toughen up the pads. In the meantime, you can try using some booties when you hike to protect the pads. I am worried about my dog’s paws. He is not in any pain but his paws are pink, dry, and I think they may have discoloration.

Arnold's paws look irritated. This irritation could be due to allergies or walking over rough surfaces (like dry grass or gravel). If he is licking the paws, this could be a sign of discomfort. I recommend to have Arnold checked by the veterinarian to make sure this is not infection. You can also add in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma. That looks like an insect bite that may be infected for it to have a focal light spot in the center. If she seems fine otherwise you can opt to keep an eye on it and make sure it continues to improve. If it does get bigger, if she becomes lame, acts sick, refuses to eat or starts vomiting or has diarrhea, get her in to see your vet right away as there may be something more serious going on.

My dog has these little black dots in between in paw pads. Should I be concerned? He doesn't seem to lick them excessively.

If Jeter does not seem bothered by this, it is likely pad that is starting to grow in this area. Once more pad develops here, this condition can produce long hairlike extensions of the paw pad in a condition called hyperkeratosis of the pads. This is typically not worrisome and does not cause any problems. This may also be dirt trapped so cleaning the paws with a benzoyl peroxide based veterinary shampoo would help. Dermabenz would be the shampoo I would recommend and you can bathe the feet a few times per week. I hope this helps!
