My newborn kitten has 3 legs and a scabbed stub. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 9 days old

My kitten has recently had kittens (currently a week old) and one of them only has 3 limbs. The stub of the leg is scabbed and looks to have dried blood on it. The kitten doesn't show any signs of pain and is behaving normally. Should i do anything?

I would have Nubs (love his name!) seen by a vet. Be sure to bring along his litter mates and mother as well. If the stub of the leg is scabbed and may have dried blood on it, it could have been injured and it's worth having it looked at and cleaned by the vet.
