Why is my dog bleeding heavily after heat and struggling to stand?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shetland Sheepdog | Female | unspayed

Hi there. My dog has been in heat the last few weeks. We thought that her being in heat was over, as she stopped bleeding and showing any signs of excess blood. The last few days she has been bleeding so much that it is literally all over the floor. It appears that there are droplets of blood as well all over. She was having a very hard time standing up to be able to go outside. Would you suggest getting her into the vet asap?

Yes, absolutely take Diamond into a vet immediately. I would be concerned that she may have a pyometra, which is a serious infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. She needs veterinary treatment now, please take her into a vet asap.
