My 2-month-old puppy twitches in sleep, hard to wake. Seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 7 days old | 1.8 lbs

My 2 month old puppy has not eaten for a few hours. She fell asleep and while she was asleep she started twitching, I tried to shake her to wake her up but it took about 10 seconds to wake her up. Could she be having a seizure?

Puppies can twitch in their sleep due to dreams they are having, so it may not be that Cali was having a seizure. Sometimes puppies can be a deep sleep and it can take longer to walk them, but I would keep an eye on her to be safe. Because I can't see her in person, I can't say for certain she didn't have a seizure, but you wouldn't have been able to wake her at all if she was having one. If you are very concerned, have her seen by a vet in the morning for a health check.
