Is it okay to give my dog expired eye drops for his conjunctivitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 6 years and 2 months old | 19 lbs

I took my dog to the vet today and he was prescribed vetropolycin HC for conjunctivitis. When i got home, I realized the expiration date on the box reads 2/17. The animal hospital we went to is currently closed for the night. I wanted to know if it is ok to administer the medication to my dog even though it is expired.

Oh no, that's not good that the medication is expired! Because it's expired, I would not give it to Shiro, as leaving it overnight will be ok. Call your vet in the morning to let them know they accidentally gave you expired medications, and they can get you a fresh one.
