My dog has pancreatitis, high WBC, and won't eat. Is it stress?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 28 lbs

My dog was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis. He has been hospitalized for 5 days where he has gotten fluids and antibiotics. He ate some food yesterday and the day before, but didn't this morning. (He is somewhat of a picky eater). He's been on antibiotics, but his WBC count is still a little high. What could cause this? Could it be from stress or something else? He has never been away from me/my family for this long in the 6 years we've had him.

The elevated wbc count is common with both inflammation and infection of damaged tissues and although should be monitored is not abnormal given recent pancreatitis. An ultra low fat but not calorie restricted diet is generally considered best for recovery, liquid recuperation supplements are also very helpful as the gut recovers
